Samba Society Labor Day all-star backyard samba party!

  • Trópico de Nopal Gallery / Art Space 1665 Beverly Boulevard Los Angeles, CA, 90026 (map)

Samba Society is back after a long hiatus to celebrate 10 years with the return of our epic Labor Day backyard samba party at Tropico de Nopal Gallery Art-Space!!!

Our traditional "roda de samba" is the only event of its kind in L.A. that features a mix of deep roots samba, batuque, partido alto, and samba de terreiro in the most intimate setting of the Trópico backyard. Performing in our preferred circular format, we blur the lines between the audience and musician. Our event is THE L.A. staple of old-school, roots samba and Trópico de Nopal is the only venue in Southern California where Samba Society performs in this format that is the hallmark of the samba tradition.

Samba Society is an eclectic collective of Brazilian, American, and international musicians that share a deep connection to Brazilian music. The group's history is intrinsically tied to Trópico de Nopal and owner Reyes Rodríguez, who has been a supporter and host since we started. After a long absence from our home base we open the circle once again to our extended family of musicians, artists, dancers, sing-alongers, and cool cats of every stripe.
